BAKE-OFF

Department of Medicine RMH/WH BAKE-OFF Rules

1. A single cake ingredient will be suggested by each Department of Medicine RMH/WH group e.g. Chocolate.
a. A total of 9 groups = 9 suggested ingredients

2. Participants See appendix 1

3. 4 ingredients will be chosen by the organising committee and must be used as part of the cake; please note placing 4 ingredients on top of a cake, while amusing, will disqualify the cake.

4. Each group must nominate a person or persons from their group (henceforth known as ‘bakers’) to bake their group’s cake

5. Acceptable definition of cakes will include
a. Cakes
b. Tarts/pie
c. Slice/brownie

6. Unacceptable definitions of cakes include but not preclude
a. biscuits
b. breads/loafs
c. scones
d. puddings
e. deserts such as JELLY
f. ice-cream cakes

7. Cakes will be judged on
a. Appearance
b. Consistency
c. Taste
d. Smell
e. Creativity

8. The cakes will be judged by a variation of Eurovision judging rules
a. There will be 9 Judges
b. Each group will appoint 1 judge (henceforth known as ‘tasters’) from within their group who must be different from the group baker/s
c. Each taster must rank the 8 other groups cakes from 1-8, with 8 being the highest ranking cake i.e. best cake and 1 the lowest ranking cake i.e. worst cake, according to the judging criteria outlined above.
d. Each taster’s scores will be tallied by the organising committee and the winning cake will be announced.
e. In the event of a tie for first place, the organising committee will cast the deciding vote.

9. All organising committee decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

10. General cake tasting by the hoi polloi will attract a $2 ‘tasting fee’ – money going to the charity of the winning group’s choice.

11. The organising committee reserves the right to amend these rules without notice

2 One cake is to be submitted by each group; however multiple enters will be accepted if the group wishes.
